Positional play and free run

The picture above is of a training drill. It involves players from two teams i.e. Team Red and Yellow. The Yellow team is the attacking team while the Red team is the defending team in this drill.

The drill starts when the Yellow player 6 plays a pass to the player 10, who plays it back to him immediately as he is being approached by the opposing player. The player 6 then plays a minus ball to player 9 who runs to reach the ball, leaving the defender marking him, behind. He then rolls the ball a little, before playing a through ball in the penalty box for the player 11. The player 11 runs in order to approach the ball in the penalty box leaving the defender marking him behind. On reaching the penalty box and the ball, player 11 takes a first time shot at the bottom right corner of the goal and the goalkeeper dives in order to save the first time shot by the player 11.

This drill helps to improve the chemistry between the players, passing of the ball and finesse.
